Cast-Iron Fountains
Cast Iron and Metal Fountains can create a focal point for the entrance to your property. Here at Water Feature Pros we provide classically inspired Cast-Iron Fountains and other pieces that can be combined in a variety of ways. We have large, intermediate, or small-scale fountains for any need. Used with either a masonry pool or cast-iron basin they can be accessorized with submersible lighting and spray ring inserts.

Small Garden or Courtyard Fountains
At a maximum height of six to eight feet with bowl diameters smaller than three feet, small fountains are perfect for more intimate settings. One great advantage is they may be used with Robinson Iron’s ground basins. Less site work is required to install and they use small recirculating pumps that operate on 115 volts. Ground basins have a decorative “lip” in either an egg and dart or frog and turtle motif. A center conduit allows for overflow and electrical supply. A small stainless steel drain plug is installed for maintenance. The musical, almost “bell” tone quality of the water play in these fountains make them especially enjoyable.

Medium Backyard and a Estate Fountains
With a maximum height of ten feet and bowl diameters no greater than six feet, medium sized Metal Fountains are adaptable to a variety of spaces. Whether in an enclosed courtyard or on an estate lawn these pieces have presence. Most operate with simple recirculating pumps while others may benefit from a more complex plumbing and electrical package.

Large Entrance, Backyard, Estate and Commercial Fountains
Standing ten feet and often up to over twenty feet in height, these large estate, commercial or municipal fountains are the centerpiece of many public spaces. They typically consist of bowls greater than five feet in diameter with a maximum of fifteen feet. “Roman” styles are more architectural exhibiting egg and dart detailing combined with fluting, reeding and acanthus. “Sculptural” styles are adorned with organic forms found in nature often with the addition of life-size figures of people or animals. Spouting “remotes” located within the pool are often used to accent these pieces. Forward thinking in the design process for plumbing and electrical needs are designed individually. Because plumbing, waterflow and even lighting and spray rings are considered during design they may be easily customized for a specific effect. Additionally, Cast Iron pool copings and inner pool rings are available for tiered effects.

Maintenance of Cast-Iron Fountains
Maintenance of Cast-Iron fountains can provide lasting beauty indefinitely with a minimum amount of maintenance. The fountain’s finish should last many years or possibly a decade depending on the severity of weather conditions. When rust appears, steps may be taken to clean and repaint the fountain. (Note: Small amounts of rust should be expected and tolerated.) Aquatic plants are not recommended for recirculating pools. Decayed plant material tends to promote algae growth, clogging the pump filters. Algae may be prevented with a weak solution of commercially available swimming pool product. Even extreme cold weather should not hurt the fountain itself. It may, however, cause cracking in a concrete basin. To prevent this, the submersible pump should be cut off in advance and the basin drained. The pump in any case should not be operated in extreme cold.

All of this will start us down the road to coming up with the fountain design you are looking for.
